      Combined Locks

      Age 73, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, February 20, 2002 at the St. Paul Home, Kaukauna. He was born January 17, 1929 in Combined Locks, Wisconsin son of the late John and Amelia (Peters) De Goey. Bill was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. On July 22, 1952 he married the former Lea Ann Lom at St. Paul Catholic Church, Combined Locks. Bill was very civically involved having served on the Combined Locks Village Board from 1954 to 1959. Bill worked for Combined Locks Paper Company until 1959 at which time he served as director of Public Works in Combined Locks, retiring after 25 years due to his health. He also served as Village Constable for six years, was a director of Combined Locks Advancement Association, was a member of the Combined Locks Horseshoe Club (where he served as treasurer) and had also served on the Outagamie County Board from 1980 to 1984. Bill played drums for 35 years in the Mel Baeten Orchestra, having a special love for polkas. He was a very active member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Combined Locks where he served on the cemetery board and various other committees. He was a member of Jacob Coppus Post 258 of the American Legion, Little Chute and the VFW Post 10544, Combined Locks. Bill was an avid sportsman. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lea Ann, Combined Locks their children: Gary (Mary) De Goey, Debbie (Jim) Jonen, Barb (Jeff) Curtin, Joan (Jim) Nackers, Kathy (Len) Menting, Joe (Vicky) De Goey, Amy (Todd) VanSchyndel, Bill (Staci) De Goey, 17 grandchildren: David and Matt De Goey, Jaime and Amanda Jonen, Nicole Curtin, Chad (Paula) Nackers, Michelle, Cory and Katie Nackers, Maria, Jessica and Matt Menting, Kristie and Brooke De Goey, Nathan and Jake VanSchyndel and Madeleine De Goey. Bill is also survived by four sisters and two brothers-in-law: Sylvia Bird, Angie (Soney) Vander Steen, Eleanor Vandenberg, Carol Burmester, and Leo Vandenberg a step-brother, John Wirth a step-sister, Joann Jansen, numerous nieces and nephews. He is further survived by his wife's sister, Phyllis (Marty) Roovers. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, Ann two sisters: Betty Keller and Marion Vandenberg three brother-in-law: Bob Bird, Don Vandenberg and Bob Burmester. The funeral service will be 12 (NOON), Saturday at St. Paul Catholic Church, Combined Locks with Father Robert Vandenbeg officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Post 258 of the American Legion and VFW Post 10544 immediately following the services. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name. Boettcher Family Funeral Home, Kaukauna is assisting the family.

      The family wishes to express special thanks to the staff at St. Paul Home, especially Sue Hansel, Wayne and Claire Christopherson, and Sr. Solanus for the excellent care and concern show to Bill.
