- Mrs. A. Hendricks, First White Born at Lena, Is Dead
Lena, Wis. Mrs. Anna Hendricks, 77, the first white person to be born in the village of Lena, died at her home here at 1:45 this morning. She had been ill several months. Mrs. Hendricks was born on March 15, 1874, to Mr. and Mrs. Clement Rosera, pioneer settlers here. She was the widow of the late Henry Hendricks, who was a railroad man. The couple had lived at Wausaukee during their life together. Surviving are four sons, Guy of Melborne [Melbourne], Fla., Addis [Edward?] of Milwaukee, Frank of San Francisco, Calif., and Martin of Appleton: one daughter, Mrs. Mary Brown of Green Bay: two sisters: Mrs. Sol Pelkey of Milwaukee and Mrs. Alvin Tyrell of Clintonville: five brothers: Joseph Rosera of Green Bay, Louis of El-Cajou [El Cajon], Calif., and John, Steve and Fred, all of Lena. There also are five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mrs. Hendricks was a member of the St. Charles Altar society. The body is at the Steffen Funeral home here, where it will be in state until the time of services. Rites will be held at 9 o'clock Monday Morning at the St. Charles church, with Rev. Frank Francart officiating. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery at Wausaukee. The rosary will be recited by members of the Altar society at 8 o'clock Saturday evening. The members will also attend rites in a group. Another rosary recitation for the parish will be led by the Rev. Francart at 8 o'clock Sunday evening. (Press Gazette, 28 Sept. 1951)
