    • David F. Van Asten age 83, of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, died peacefully Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Wellington Place in Wisconsin Rapids WI surrounded by his loving family.

      Funeral Mass will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, Wisconsin Rapids, WI. Father Valentine Joseph will officiate. Visitation will be at Ritchay Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids, WI on Tuesday from 4:00-8:00 PM and Wednesday at the Church from 10:00-11:00 AM. There will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 6:30 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Forest Hill Mausoleum with military rites provided by American Legion Post #485 of Rudolph.

      David was born December 1, 1934 in Marshfield, WI to Simon and Marie (Bushmaker) Van Asten. David graduated from Rudolph High School. He married the love of his life, Agnes Mae Zurkowski on September 6, 1958. The couple had four children.

      David joined Consoweld Corp. in 1958 and worked in the fabrication and laminating department prior to serving in the U.S. Army in 1961. After reinstatement in 1962 he returned to the laminating department as a cover paper warehouse man, became cover paper operator in 1966 and advanced to group leader until Consoweld went to the Maxim System. He resumed his job as cover paper operator, his position at the time of the sale of Consoweld to LOF Plastics in 1985. He was rehired by Consolidated Papers Inc- Wisconsin Rapids Division in 1989 and retired in 1994.

      David served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1957-1963 and during that time was called to the Berlin Crisis. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #1558 of Wisconsin Rapids, the Catholic Financial Life Chapter 11 and was a long time member of the Our Lady Queen of Heaven Parish and was an honorary member of their Seniors Social. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, bowling, golfing, horseshoes, gardening and traveling.

      David is survived by his wife of 60 years, Agnes; four children, Daniel (Sandra) Van Asten, Thomas (Sandra) Van Asten, Susan (Gary) Wiater and James (Debbie) Van Asten; 11 grandchildren, Isaac Van Asten & Jessica, Kayla Van Asten, Moriah Van Asten, Laura Van Asten, Valerie Van Asten, Nathan (Kylee) Polzin, Amanda (Chase) Anderson, Jacob Steltenpohl, Justin Steltenpohl, Emily Van Asten and Madysen Van Asten; 2 great grandchildren, Noah and Eli Van Asten; 4 step grandchildren; 10 step great grandchildren; sister, Janet Suzda; and numerous nieces and nephews.

      David is also survived by sisters-in-law, Lorraine Van Asten, Betty Trickle and Dorothy Zurkowski. Also survived by many grand nieces and nephews.

      David was preceded in death by his parents; brothers (sisters-in-law), Greg (Janet) Van Asten, Marvin (Irene) Van Asten and Howard Van Asten; father and mother-in-law, John and Isabelle Zurkowski and brothers-in-law, Robert Suzda and Leroy Trickle.

      In lieu of flowers a memorial in Dave’s name will be established at a later date.

      David’s family would like to thank the staffs at Wellington Place, Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice and Ritchay Funeral Home, for their loving, compassionate care given to David.
