    • Anna Mendez, age 89 of Appleton, passed away on Friday night, September 12, 2014 at a local hospital. Anna was born in Little Chute on February 23, 1923, daughter of the late William and Helena (Hartjes) Van Boxtel. On September 7, 1979 she married Jack Mendez; he preceded her in death in 20o3. Anna will be remembered for her love of games, crossword puzzles, and the "occasional" trip to the casino.

      She leaves behind her loving family: a daughter: Helen "Lynn" (Thomas) Cattanach of Markesan; two granddaughters: Kim (David) Stephens of Brookfield and Karie (John) Davenport of Madison; four grandchildren: Alexander and Zayda Stephens and Sierra and Jackson Davenport; a sister: Alice Ludwig and her friend Roger of Appleton; and a sister-in-law: Rita Van Boxtel of Appleton.

      A service to honor Anna's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at the Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior Street in Appleton. Entombment will follow at Highland Memorial Park. Family and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
