- Mrs. Tony (Ruth A.) Canadeo, 94, longtime resident of Green Bay, died Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015, at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born January 20, 1921, in Green Bay to Chris and Olive (Savageau) Toonen.
Ruth graduated from St. Patrick Grade School and was a 1940 graduate of West High School. Mrs. Canadeo was a charter member of St. Agnes Parish. Her husband, Tony's long career with the Green Bay Packers provided many opportunities for travel but she was always happiest at home with her family. Ruth sincerely loved her vocation as a devoted wife and mother.
She is survived by her five children and their spouses, Bob and Jan (Meindl) Canadeo, Tom Canadeo, Tony and Cindy (Beno) Canadeo, Mary Kay and Dan Gunn, Nancy and John Kesler; 13 grandchildren, Gina and Ryan August, Angela Canadeo, Jean and Mike Cranston, Maggie and Paul Sorenson, Tom Canadeo Jr., Erin Canadeo, Katie and Ryan Thompson, Laurie and Tommy Durkin, Natalie Canadeo, Sarah and Armin Peterson, Kurt and Kimberly Gunn, Mike Kesler, and Nick Kesler. She is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony "Tony" Canadeo in 2003; a great-grandson, Anthony J. Canadeo Durkin; two brothers, Clayton Toonen and Rev. Harvey Toonen, O.Praem; and three sisters, Hazel Sternard, Marvel Biebel and Iola Zarter.
Friends may call at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1484 Ninth St. from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday, April 10. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 10 at the church with longtime family friend, Rev. Richard Getchel officiating. Entombment will be in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established to benefit St. Agnes Parish, St. Mary's Hospital, and Unity Hospice.
The Canadeo family wishes to express their gratitude to Ruth's many wonderful friends at Nicolet Highlands and to the staff of Unity Hospice for the love and care shown to Ruth.
