    • Charles DeKoch was the father of eight children, the youngest having been born within three months before his tragic and untimely demise. On April 16, 1906, he was hit by a train and decapitated only a short distance from his home. Upon hearing of his death, his widow (Christina Hartjes DeKoch) attempted to throw herself into the well, but was restrained by neighbors and a passerby. Charles is buried in the cemetery of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Little Chute, Wisconsin. He is in the old section, block 12, grave #17. Ironically, the top part of his monument is gone. The name on his stone is difficult, but not impossible, to read. His widow died in 1968 and is buried in St. Mary Cemetery, Kaukauna Wisconsin (Grave 2, Block 1, Lot 3 in Section F.
