- Couillard, Barbara E.
One day in mid-September 2014, God had a need to strengthen his heavenly team. His list of criteria for membership on the team was: someone who has a beautiful smile, is always willing to tackle the tasks at hand, and always sees the bright side of the situation; someone who creates an air of love and happiness wherever she goes, and shows never-ending care and compassion for all those who surround her, always putting their feelings and needs ahead of her own. When God asked his team whom he should select, it was unanimous - call Barb!! And so He did.
Barbara E. Couillard, age 69, of Appleton passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, September 23, 2014, at Cherry Meadows Hospice, surrounded by her family. Barb was born June 18, 1945 in Neenah, the daughter of the late J. Gordon and Alice M. (Gear) Weber. Barb worked for Thrivent Financial for over 30 years as a Senior Claims Representative in the Medicare Supplement area. On June 12, 1999, she married Ken Couillard and they celebrated 15 wonderful years of marriage this summer. She was a very active member of Memorial Presbyterian Church, serving as a Deacon and participating in the Knitting Group, where she created many mittens for the Christmas Mitten Tree, warm caps for chemotherapy patients, and baby afghans and prayer shawls. Barb also served her church as usher, greeter, counter and fellowship host.
During her son Ricky's growing-up years, Barb volunteered with Special Olympics and was Ricky's biggest supporter of his swimming, skiing and other sports activities. Barb was also active with The Arc organization (formerly known as the Association of Retarded Citizens). She loved gardening, shows at the PAC, trips to New York, dinners at Romy's Nightingale, reading, scrapbooking, and of course, time spent with her family. Barb was a selfless, nurturing woman who always put her family first, and she will be greatly missed by those lucky enough to have known her.
She is survived by her husband, Ken; her sons: Todd (Julie) Pyszora, Waukesha, David Pyszora, Neenah; stepdaughters: Kathy (Jon) Willis, Manitowoc, Kerri (Gary "Jeep") Jepson, Manawa; grandchildren: Emily and Rachel Pyszora, Aaron and Emma Willis, Courtney and Keither Jepson; brothers: Chuck (Jean) Weber, Chaska, MN, Bob (Kris) Weber, Surprise, AZ, Jim (Lisa) Weber, Green Bay; brother-in-law Doug (Betty) Couillard; a very special former daughter-in-law, Mary Beth Pyszora; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
In addition to her parents, Barb was preceded in death by her son, Ricky Pyszora; her stepson, Keith Couillard; her brother-in-law Jim Couillard; and very recently by her nephew, Curtis Weber.
The Funeral service for Barbara will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Presbyterian Church, 803 E. College Ave. in Appleton, with Rev. Michael Goodwin officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 30 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Menasha's Westgor Funeral Home, 1140 Appleton Road, and again on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in St. Margaret Mary's Cemetery in Neenah. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Barb's name for Special Olympics.
