    • Joseph A. Schneider, age 78, of 2208 Jefferson Street New Holstein died peacefully on Sunday October 22, 2006 at his cottage on Lake Noquebay with his loving wife and family at his side.

      He was born June 11, 1928 in Kiel a son of the late Joseph F. & Magdalena Schaller Schneider. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from February 14, 1951 to November 13, 1953. On May 15, 1952 he married Audrey Geiser at Wolters Air Force Base in Mineral Wells, TX. Joe was employed at the former A.A. Laun Lumber Company in Kiel and New Holstein until his retirement in 1983.

      Joseph was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein, the Holy Name Society, the New Holstein American Legion Post 124, Calumet County Veteran's Association and a retired member of the New Holstein Fire Department.

      Joe enjoyed fishing, especially with his children. He enjoyed playing cards, spending time with his grandchildren and relaxing at his cottage on Lake Noquebay in Marinette County.

      Survivors include his wife, Audrey of New Holstein; his 6 children, Joseph R. Schneider & his fianc?e Debbie Backhaus of Appleton, Diane (Mark) Schuh of Kiel, Lois Kosky & her fianc? Tom Kale of Columbus, OH, Brenda (Robert) St. Pierre of New Holstein, Karen (Steven) Hoefler of Kiel and Dan (Lauri Trad) Schneider of Sheboygan; 11 grandchildren, Christa Schneider, Lindsey (Graig) Gubello, Adam (Kari) Schuh, Mark (Sarah) Schuh, Anthony Kosky, Abby Lechler, Jessica Lechler, Eric Hoefler, Andrew Hoefler, Evan Trad and Jamie Schneider; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Roger (Marlene) Schneider of Kiel and Richard (Ann) Schneider of Sheboygan; 2 sisters, Betty (Don) Winkler of St. Anna and Marie (Richard) Burkard of Green Bay; his step-sister, Shirley (Harold) Maltby of Chilton; 4 sister's-in-law, Jeanette (Leo) Steiner of Chilton, Margaret Dreger of New Holstein, Eunice Enders of Owensboro, KY and Geri Schneider Mathes of Kiel and 1 brother-in-law, Fritz Herr of Osman.

      He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers, Andrew, Lambert, Robert and Wally Schneider and 2 sisters, Bernice Gruenke and Anna Mae Klapperich.

      A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday October 26, 2006 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein. Rev. Harold Berryman, Pastor, and Rev. Al Geiser will concelebrate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

      Friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home 2618 Altona Ave. New Holstein on Wednesday October 25th from 4-8 PM and again at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 9-10 AM when brief family rites will be held at the funeral home. A prayer service will be held at 7:45 PM Wednesday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in his name.
