    • Mildred A. Bergstrom, age 101, of Ewing, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, August 29, 2016, at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Norfolk, Nebraska. She was born on July 19, 1915 in Ewing, the daughter of John and Caroline (Vandenberg) Sanders.

Mildred had two years of normal training in high school and attended one semester at Wayne State College. She taught school for three years at Keeler, one year at Deloit, and a year and half at Emporia, all in the Ewing area. Mildred managed her brother's store, Curly's Market, during World War II.

On May 27, 1947, she was united in marriage to Lester "Jap" Bergstrom at St Peter's Catholic Church in Ewing. Jap died at the end of 1961, the same year their youngest child Kevin was born, leaving Mildred to raise their seven children alone.

Mildred made bread, cinnamon rolls and quilts for her family. The quilts were very much appreciated not only for their warmth but for the love that was put into them.
