- Bernice Hacker, Kaukauna, age 82, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2015 at the St. Paul Home following a short illness. She was born on August 30, 1933 in Little Chute, daughter of Nick & Antoinette (Sanderfoot) DeBruin. On June 25, 1953 she was united in marriage to Russell Hacker at St. John Catholic Church in Little Chute.
Bernice loved to crochet, and spent many hours making baby blankets, booties & hats to donate to local charities, along with many special blankets for her family. The best thing she ever crocheted were coasters that her grandchildren & great-grandchildren used as frisbees to whip around the living room while she tried to watch golf! She treasured those times and especially enjoyed watching them climb up to the attic for all of the fun games she had stored up there. Holidays were special and there was never a Christmas without Santa and Old Fashions! Bernice enjoyed the simple life, especially putzing around in her garden, showing off her beautiful flowers! Other favorite times were spent watching the world softball tournaments over the years with friends and, more recently, trips to the casino to play bingo, where she met wonderful new friends! Many fun memories were made on summer trips to Pickerel Lake, and working concessions at the ball diamond with the Kaukauna Athletic Club.
Bernice is survived by her children: Warren (Pat) Hacker, Jeff (Kathie) Hacker, Bryan (Paula) Hacker, Ken (Lynn) Hacker; 12 grandchildren: Greg (Valerie) Hacker, Lisa Hacker, Dan (Jodi) Hacker, Nick & Kristen Hacker, Stefanie Pagel & Sarah (Tom) Curry, Dallas Hacker, Caitlin (Eric) Hunt, Carson Hacker, Scott & Emily Hacker; three great-grandchildren: Pierson & Lane Hacker, Haydin Hacker; brother-in-law Earl (Jalaine) Woller; sisters-in-law, Elnora DeBruin & Margaret Reed. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russ; parents; mother-in-law & father-in-law Roy & Violet (Maas) Hacker; sisters and brothers-in-law Lucille DeBruin, Joyce & Doug Longsine; brothers & sisters-in-law Marvin DeBruin, Laverne "Blackie" DeBruin, Clayton "Pee Wee" & Fordyce "Toby" DeBruin, Francis Reed, and Jean Woller.
