    • Ronald J. Deutsch, age 82, of Eau Claire, WI, passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at his home with his family by his side, after a long struggle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP).

Ron was born on May 15, 1936, in Boyd, WI, to Matthew and Anna (Gerrits) Deutsch. He was raised in the Stanley-Boyd area where he graduated from the local high school. Ron married Susan Panke on October 25, 1958, in Sturtevant, WI. They lived in Chicago, St. Paul and finally settled in Eau Claire, WI. Ron and Sue had two children; Ted and Claudia.

Ron was an avid hunter and fisherman. No matter the season he was always in the woods or on the water. Ron was also a huge sports fan, often setting up multiple TVs so he would never miss the game, regardless of what sport it was. Ron was a longtime softball umpire and basketball referee. To many in the community, he was known simply as “Blue.” He also enjoyed taking long rides on his Harley-Davidson. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandkids.

Ron is survived by his wife, Sue; his two children, Ted (Jean) Deutsch of Eau Claire, and Claudia (Jeffrey) Martin of Eau Claire; his two grandchildren, Gabriel Martin and Regan Martin; his step-grandson Michael Paulson; two sisters. Mary Jane Madisen of Racine, and Eileen Juno of Reedsburg; as well as many nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew and Anna; his brother, Raymond Deutsch; and three sisters, Margaret Ebben, Jeanette Fitzsimmons, and Rose Ann Polnasek

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at 12:00 pm, at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 2502 11th St. in Eau Claire, with Father Tom Krieg presiding. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at the WEST CHAPEL location of Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 1405 N. Clairemont Ave. in Eau Claire, and again one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the following: CurePSP at www.psp.org or 1206 York Rd, Suite L-4, Lutherville, MD 21093, or to Mayo Health Hospice at Mayo Clinic Department of Development, 200 First St. SW, Rochester, MN 55905 — payable to MCHS-NWWI Hospice.

The family wishes to express their deepest thanks to John Freemann and all of the other caregivers who supported and loved Ron in the last years of his life.
