- Henry and Annie raised 2 nieces besides their daughter, Delia (Mrs. John Fink). One was Henry's niece, Johanna or Anna Verhagen (Mrs. Henry Plutz), daughter of Martin and his wife Catherine (Smits) Verhagen. Catherine died when Anna or Johanna was only 4 months old. The other was Eleanor Coenen (Mrs. Herb Nytes), daughter of Annie's brother John and his wife Minnie (Danan) Coenen. Minnie died when Eleanor was only 2 months old.
Mrs. Henry Verhagen, Sr.
Mrs. Henry Verhagen, Sr., 77, route 1, Kaukauna, died at her home in the village of Freedom at 2:10 Thursday afternoon after an illness of one month. She was born in DePere Oct. 14, 1868, and has lived in Freedom for 55 years. She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic church, Freedom, Christian Mothers society and St. Therese society of that parish.
Survivors are the widower; three daughters, Mrs. John Fink, route 1, Foresst Junction; Mrs. Herbert Nytes, route 3, Kaukauna; Miss Anna Verhagen, route 1, Kaukauna; three brothers, John, Henry and Anton coenen, all of De Pere. One sister, Mrs. Bernard Vander Heiden, route 2, Kaukauna; 4 grandchildren. 9 great-grandchildren.
funeral services will be held at 9:30 Monday morning at ST. Nicholas Catholic church. The REv. A. W. Van Dyke will officiate at the Ssolemn requiem high mass. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the residence after 7 o'clock this evening. The rosary will be recited at the church at 9 o'clock tonight and Saturday night and at 8 o'clock Sunday night.
