- Freedom Poineer Dies at 79 Years
Henry Verhagen, Sr., 79, lifetime resident of Freedom, route 1, Kaukauna, died at his home at 7:30 Wednesday night after a long illness.
Mr. Verhagen was born Oct. 9, 1867. He had operated a farm until 1912 and then became janitor for St. Nicholas Catholic church, Freedom, until 1934 when he retired. He was a member of the Holy Name and St. Therese societies of St. Nicholas church.
He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. John Fink, Freedom, Mrs. Henry Plutz, route 1, Forest Junction, and Mrs. Herbert Nytes, route 3, Kaukauna; a brother, Louis, Little Chute; a sister, Mrs. Lucy Pennings, Kaukauna; and four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
A solemn requiem mass will be said at 9:30 Monday morning at St. Nicholas church, Freedom, with the Rev. A. W. Van Dyke, pastor, as celebrant, the Rev. Robert Verhagen, a nephew, St. Nazianz, as deacon and the Rev. Earl Schuh, Green Bay, sub-deacon. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call at the Verhagen residence starting at 7 o'clock Friday evening. The rosary will be recited at 8 o'clock Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings at St. Nicholas church.
