George M. Demerath

Age 69, died Sunday morning at a Green Bay hospital following a short illness. He was born August 30, 1910 in the Town of Grand Chute, to the late Joseph and Gertrude Demerath. He attended Freedom Grade School. He married the former Leona Verhagen in September 1936 in Freedom. The couple farmed in the Town of Lawrence until they moved to Wrightstown nine years ago. Mrs. Demerath died in 1971. Mr. Demerath was a member of the Holy Name Society, St. Paul Catholic Church, Wrightstown. Survivors include his second wife, the former Eleanor Coenen, whom he had married in July 1972; four sons: Vernon, Wrightstown; Carlos, Kaukauna; Arlin and Gary, both of De Pere; three daughters: Mrs. Robert (Joyce) Huisenfeldt, Green Bay; Mrs. Terry (Lorraine) Brick, and Mrs. Keith (Linda) Petersen, both of Kaukauna; 20 grandchildren; 3 step-sons: James Coenen, Wrightstown; Ted and Mark Coenen, Kaukauna; a step-daughters, Mrs. William (Judy) Ehlert, Vesper, WI; ten step-grandchildren; four brothers: Clarence and Edward, Green Bay; John and Norbert, Little Chute; two sisters (Mrs. Elzear (Joan) Bowers, Wrightstown; and Mrs. Alvin (Marie) Bowers, New Brighton, Minnesota; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Anne Plutz, Kaukauna. Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by a son and a brother. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Catholic Church, Wrightstown, with the Rev. Richard Shafer and the Rev. Paul Brick officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the De Wane Funeral Home, Wrightstown, after 3 p.m. Tuesday. There will be a prayer service at 8 Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
