- VanSchyndel, Sylvester 2000 Appleton Post Crescent dated 7/12/2000, Sylvester VanSchyndel, age 88, died Monday, July 10th, 2000, at St. Elizabeth Hospital after a short illness. Syl was born December 26th, 1911, in Little Chute to the late Henry and Anna (Heesacker) VanSchyndel. He married Verona Weber on June 14th, 1932, in Kaukauna, she survives. Syl was the founder and president of Badger Metals Inc.. (Distributor of heating and air-conditioning equipment), retiring on January 1st, 1998. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 607: 4th degree Knights of Columbus: Elks Club a 337: and Ridgway Country club. Syl enjoyed golfing, gardening and playing cards. Survivors include his wife of 68 years: his daughter, Phyllis (Gabe) Gabrielson, of Appleton: Ruth (Frank) Leahy, of Appleton: his son, Joe (Kit) VanSchyndel, of Appleton: his 13 grandchildren, Janet (Clark) Kreider, Dee Wais, Sara (Joe) Daniel, Ann (David) Hovell, Steven (Meg) Leahy, Karen (Dan) Suminski, Peter (Marilynn) Leahy, Robert (Shellie) Leahy, Debbie (Joe) Welch, Joanne (Jim) Coates, Vicky (Ross) Chisholm, Sue VanSchyndel, and Jack VanSchyndel and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet VanSchyndel: his sister, Agnes VandenHeuvel, his brothers, William, Lawrence and Jack VanSchyndel. Funeral liturgy will be 6:00 p.m. July 13th, 2000 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Appleton, with Father Donald Zuleger officiating. Internment will be in the St. John's cemetery, Little Chute.
