    • Julian "Jules" Abts, 71, Green Bay, was called home to be with the Lord, Sept. 14, 2011. He died peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. He was born in Green Bay, July 22, 1940, to the late Julian and Valentine (Piumbroeck) Abts.

      Jules graduated in 1959, from Green Bay East High School. On Sept. 29, 1962, he married the love of his life, the former Carol Herlache. He worked for the city of Green Bay for 13 years. Don De Cleene, owner of Bulk Transport, then provided him the opportunity to drive semi, something he always wanted to do. The last 20 years of his career he drove for USF Holland, retiring in 2006. Jules was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed his family, golfing, boating, deer hunting, the Packers and those wonderful backyard cookouts. He was a member of St. Bernard Parish.

      Jules is survived by his wife, Carol; and children, Joseph (Paula) Abts, Thomas (Bobbi Jo) Abts, Maria (Cory) Dorner, Jessica (Scott) Bolle, Christina (Chad) Hendricks and Michael (Emmy) Abts; grandchildren, Tony, Taylor, Tianna Abts, Blayne, Marissa, Charity, Seth Abts, Jordyn, Amanda (deceased), Danny Dorner, Michael Abts (M.J.), Gabe, Gavin Bolle, Jake and Jaron Hendricks, and Garrett Abts.

      He is further survived by sisters, Beverly (Al) Schott, Betty (Tony) Beyer, Rosemary (Bud) Brosig; brothers, Ralph (Ann) Abts, Clayton (Shirley) Abts; sisters-in-law, Ruth (John) Abts, Joyce (Norman) Abts, Marge (Chester) Dollar; along with brothers and sisters-in-law, Rod Herlache (Sandy De Ruyter), Brian (Kathy) Herlache, Mary Lee (Michael) O'Malley, Sandy Herlache, Paula Herlache, nieces and nephews.

      Jules was preceded in death by granddaughter, Amanda; brothers, Norman, Bob, and John Abts; sisters, Leona Kaster, Marie Dollar, Dorothy Abts; brothers-in-law, Sy Kaster, Chet Dollar, Tom Herlache, Larry Herlache; sisters-in-law, Rita Abts, Linda Abts; and a dear friend, Bernie Van Boxel.

      Friends may call at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., on Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m. Parish Wake Service will be at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue after 10 a.m. Monday at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2040 Hillside Lane, Green Bay. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Monday at the church with Fr. David Pleier officiating, assisted by Deacon John Laurant and Deacon Anthony Abts. Burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery in De Pere.
