Mrs. Martin W. Vanden Berg Lene Geurts W1993 Cty Tk S Kaukauna
Age 92, died Wednesday evening, October 14, 1998 at Appleton Medical Center following a short illness. She was born March 17, 1906 to the late John and Catherine [Van Handel] Geurts in Freedom and had been an area resident all of her life. Lene married Martin W. Vanden Berg on May 5, 1925 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church. She and her husband farmed in the Town of Oneida retiring in 1971. Lena was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Christians Mothers, Golden Agers of Freedom and was an avid card player.
Survivors include two sons and daugters in-law, john and Elaine Vanden Berg, Townsend; Marvin and Shirley Vanden Berg, Pound; two fosters sons and their wives, Jack and Marilyn Jahnke, Oneida; Jerry and Sharon Jahnke, Greenville; 13 grandchildren, Terry, Mike, Dan, Bill and Dave Vanden Berg; Diand DeBruin, Linda and Barb Zuleger, Sue Hietpas, Greg, Jeff, and Mike Jahnke; Lory Kozak; 28 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin W. Vanden Berg on November 7, 1984, a great granddaughter, Amy DeBruin; a foster son, Ted Stoegbauer; six brothers, Arnold, Henry, Bill, Bert, Joe and Jake Geurts; two sisters, Dene Jager and Mary Vanden Berg and two brothers in-law, Bill and Vince Vanden Berg.
The funeral liturgy for Lene will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 17, 1998 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Freedom with Father Dennis Ryan and Deacon Don Newhouse officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. on Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church until the time of the mass.
