- Douglas Brewster, of Appleton, age 80, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 1, 2009, at Care Partners Assisted Living in Little Chute. He was born on September 27, 1928, in Weyauwega, the son of the late LaVerne and Violet (Larkee) Brewster.
On July 16, 1950, he married Bernette Zeichert at St. Peter's Ev. Lutheran Church in Weyauwega. Doug graduated from Weyauwega High School in 1946. He played basketball and football. He served his country in the U.S. Army.
Doug was employed at the Wichmann Furniture Store and retired from Baur Truck & Equipment in 1991. He enjoyed golfing and traveling; especially winter vacations in Hawaii, as well as fishing trips to Canada.
Doug is survived by his wife, Bernette Brewster, Appleton; five children, Kathy (Donald Rosenberg) Brewster, Cleveland, Ohio, Maureen Toonen, Kimberly, Randy (RoxAnne) Brewster, Little Chute, Don (Cindy) Brewster, Kaukauna, and Tim (Deirdre) Brewster, Appleton; six grandchildren, Seth and Emily Rosenberg, Kara Cumings, Ben (Carrie) Toonen and Andy (Rikki) Toonen, and Morgan Brewster; two great-grandchildren, Tate and Aubrey Cumings; brothers-in-law, DeVerne Vig, Viroqua, and Duane (Shari) Zeichert, Wausau; sister-in-law, Ruth Treul, New Berlin. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Betty Vig; sister-in-law, Diane (Wallace) Baehman; and brother-in-law, Fred Treul.
The funeral service for Douglas will be 11 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2009, at FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 601 E. Glendale Avenue, Appleton. Rev. James Wiebel will be officiating. The burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery, Weyauwega.
