MRS. J. B. DEMARAIS IS CALLED BY DEATH
Red Lake County Pioneer Woman Passes Away at Home of Son At Baudette Friday

Mrs. John. B. Demarais, one of the earliest settlers in Red Lake County, died Friday noon, June 10, 1921, at the home of her daughter, Emily (Mrs. Emory Lizotte) of Baudette, following a long illness. She had been in poor health for the past year and two months ago, an attack of pneumonia so weakened her that she failed to rally.

The remains were brought here and the funeral held Monday morning from St. Joseph's Catholic Church with solemn High Mass by Reverends Lemire, Paquin and LaRoche. The Ladies of St. Anne's Society, to which Mrs. Demarais belonged attended in a body. The pall bearers were her five sons and son-in-law.

Mrs. Demarais' maiden name was Delina Magnon (Magnan) (sic) Mayer and she was born in Quebec seventy-three years ago. Delina was married there to John B. Demarais and they came to this country and took up a homestead here in 1876. Mr. Demarais died in 1914, since which time Mrs. Demarais has spent most of the time at Baudette, then making frequent and long visits here.

She is survived by two daughters: Emily (Mrs. Emory Lizotte) of Baudette and Pearl, (Mrs. Leslie Brock) of Calgary, Alberta, and by five sons: John, Philip and Louis of Red Lake Falls, Henry of Bovey, and Arthur of Baudette. She is also survived by a brother and sister who live in Eastern Canada and another sister living in Manitoba. Mrs. Demarais was a woman of likeable qualities and she saddens many friends who grieve to learn of her death.
