      Age 77, passed away peacefully December 2, 1997. She was born October 1, 1920; the daughter of the late Theodore G. and Minnie Lamers. On June 21, 1940 she married John “Toby” Elrick at St. John's Catholic Church in Little Chute. They were blessed with five children. Together they started Jack's Hot & Frozen Pizza and resided in Little Chute until Toby's death in October of 1965. Irene married Francis “Frank” Brooks on June 10, 1972. They resided in Kaukauna and were members of St. Mary's Catholic Parish. Irene was also a member of St. Mary's Altar Society and St. Vincent de Paul Society. Some of her happiest times were volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul and making pizzas.

      She is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Patt Scumacher; Lynn Elrick; three sons: Bob (Mary) Elrick; Don (Karen) Elrick; Jeff (Connie) Elrick; 13 grandchildren: Cheri Schumacher, Christie (Mike) Ranta, Cathy (Jerry) Cigelske, Mike Schumacher, Stephanie (Brian) Doege, Christopher (Kris) Elrick, Greg (Debbie) Elrick, Joe (Kathy) Elrick, John (Jenny) Elrick, Joanne Elrick, Dana, Jessica and Sara Elrick; and 17 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two step-daughters: Susan (Paul) Ditta, Nancy (Scott) Kraft; five step-sons: David (Sally) Brooks; Ronald Brooks, and friend, Sally Hess; Thomas (Debbie) Brooks, Patrick (Cathy) Brooks; step-grandchildren: Gregory, Michelle, Edward, Sharon, Gary, Justin and Vernon Kempen, Nancy (Mike) Krejcarek; Ric and Jill Baranczyk, Ashley Brooks, Matthew and Mike Brooks, Brenda and Adam Brooks, Ashley Brooks; and four step-great-grandchildren. She is further survived by a brother and two sisters-in-law; Paul and Joyce Lamers, Kaukauna; Carol Lamers, Little Chute; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Margaret and Jerry Verstegen, Neenah; Isabelle and Orville Romenesko, Freedom; also many nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by her brother, Leo “Leaky” Lamers; a sister, Pearl DeGroot; a brother-in-law, Florence “Chub” DeGroot; and a sister-in-law, Irene Lamers. Funeral services will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 4, 1997 at St. John Catholic Church, with Rev. Dave Ruby officiating. Friends may call at the church from 3:30 p.m. on Thursday until the time of services. The Verkuilen Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
