- John Popp, 73, a retired Town of Woodville farmer, died early Sunday afternoon at his home in Hilbert. His death followed a short illness.
A life-long resident of Calumet County, he was born April 3, 1879, at Jericho and was married to Theresa Nadler at St. Elizabeth's Church in Kloten on Nov 25, 1902.
After residing in Chilton for two years, the couple settled on a farm near Stockbridge, and six years later purchased a farm near St. John where they resided for 33 years. They made their home in Hilbert since 1943.
Survivors are the widow; five sons, Frank of Chicago, the Rev Herman Popp, New York City, Joseph, of St. John, the Rev William Popp of Flores Island, Indonesia and Carl of Kaukauna; a daughter, Mrs Frank (Verona) Henseler, Hilbert; 36 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs Anna See, Kloten, and Mrs Rose Wiechman, Hartford.
Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Techtman-Wieting Funeral Home, Hilbert, and at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Church at Hilbert. The Rev Martin Jaeckles, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery at St. John.
The body will lie in state at the funeral home after 7 o'clock this evening. A parish vigil will be held at the funeral home at 8 p.m. today and Tuesday.
