    • Grandpa John Peter Vanden Berg was born August 2, 1926 and was in the war from December 22, 1944 until December 6, 1946. He married Elaine Huss on September 6, 1949. He they were first married, grandpa drove a milk truck. He worked for a Geenen's Hardware store in Freedom. He later bought out a well drilling business and drilled wells until his retirement.

When he was working for the hardware store he was doing some plumbing in a ditch on the farm when a lady came out of an old farm house on fire so my grandpa jumped out of the hole and rolled her around in the grass she wasn't injured but grandpa hurt his back and later needed surgery which later in life caused arthritis. The ladies clothes got caught on fire while she was cooking. Back then women cooked on gas stoves with open flames.

My grandpa Vanden Berg later passed away of kidney failure and advanced dimencia on December 31, 2009.
