- Obit. De Pere Journal Democrat 11-1-1934 John Baeten, 74, died at his home here Thursday afternoon, of heart disease. Death occurred w hile Mr. Baeten was watching laborers dismantle the old lock at the Croche dam adjoining hi s farm. The deceased was born in North Brabant, Holland, August 2, 1860. He came to this coun try at the age of eleven, the family settling at De Pere. Forty-seven years ago, he was unite d in marriage to Eliza Thormer, by E.De Wildt, at St. Paul's Catholic church in this village . They settled on the farm which they have occupied all these years. Survivors are his wido w and the following children; John C. and Fred J. of Wrightstown; Mary, Mrs. Joseph Ley of Ro ckland; Francis, Kaukauna;Twenty-two grandchildren also survive. There is one brother, Alber t Baeten, Kaukauna. The deceased was a charter member of the Wrightstown Branch No. 97 Cathol ic Knights of Wisconsin and the Holy Name society of St. Paul's church. He was active in vill age affairs and served as a member of the village board for several years. In addition to man aging his farm, he was employed as U.S. government lock master at the Rapids Croche Dam for 1 8 years. The funeral was held from St. Paul's Catholic church, Monday morning at 9 o'clock, R ev. A.L. Buytaert officiating. the pallbearers were, Arnold Van Dyke, George Verboomen, Pete r Vande Hey, Andrew Verboomen, Barney Klister and John Vande Voort. Interment was in the fami ly lot in St. Paul's cemetery. the land for this cemetery was donated to St. Paul's congregat ion by Mr. Baeten and he was sexton for many years.Obit.
