- Ella J. (DeValk) VerKuilen was born to eternal life and found peace on Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, at the age of 96. She was born Jan. 22, 1916, in Menominee, Wis. Ella married her beloved husband, Joseph on Oct. 3, 1936. He preceded her in death on Oct. 28, 2001.
Our mother's greatest love in life was her family. She had endless energy and possessed a positive attitude. What made her happy was spending time with her family and friends, her love of gardening, sewing and doing craft items, particularly collecting old jewelry and composing beautiful framed pictures.
Ella is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law and their children, Shirley Partee and her family, Kris Ann Van Horn, Keith Van Horn and his fiancée, Cheri Wagner, Kregg and Michelle Van Horn, Brent and Maureen Van Horn, Brad and Sue Van Horn; Patricia and Gerald Sorenson and her family, Scott and Sheri, Stuart and Kim, Shane, Steven and Sheri; as well as her deceased son's family, Carrie Roberts, William and Jamie, Richard and Renee. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Anne and Marie VerKuilen. Mother leaves a wonderful heritage in her twelve grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren. Her legacy continues with six great-great-grandchildren.
Ella was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph; a son, Daniel; a great-great-grandson, Dakota Dale Sorenson; a daughter-in-law, Jan VerKuilen; and a granddaughter-in-law, Denise Van Horn.
