    • Joseph Alaers, age 56 died of heart trouble at the home of his sister Mrs. John Toonen of DePere on Monday.

      He was born in Brussels on January 18, 1892, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Alaers.

      He and Mae Ash of Institute were married April 21, 1920 and they moved to Milwaukee in 1922. He had learned the machinist's trade in DePere and in Milwaukee was employed for 25 years by the Cutler-Hammer Company.
      A veteran of World War I, he was a member of the Charles King Legion in Milwaukee.

      Besides his wife he is survived by two brothers: Edward of West DePere and Henry of Kaukauna; six sisters: Mrs. John (Josephine) Moore of Sturgeon Bay; Mrs. John (Dora) Toonen of DePere; Mrs. John (Marie) Moll of Mukwanago; Mrs. Sam (Rose) Davison and Mrs. Phillip (Alvina) Hoffman of Milwaukee; and Mrs. Alfred (Katherine) Krueger of Merrill.

      Funeral services were conducted Thursday morning with short rites at Stoneman's Chapel at 8:30 and Mass at 9:00 at Corpus Christi church with Rev. Herman Schmitz officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery. Members of the Legion served as pall bearers and furnished a firing squad.
