- St. Louis Park, MN - Joan Mae McIntyre, age 82, died January 15th, 2019 at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, MN with her family at her bedside. She moved from Appleton, WI to Edina, MN six years ago to be near her daughter. Joan was born October 23, 1936 in Chicago, IL to Alma and Rudy Stevens. She was the oldest of two children. The family moved to Delavan, WI when she was a little girl. She grew up excelling in academics and sports and played piano. Tragically, her younger brother Dick died in a swimming accident as a teenager. In 1958 Joan graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin Madison with a teaching degree in English and Library Science. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and active in many clubs. In 1958 she started her teaching career at Waunakee High School and married Angus R. McIntyre. She was the primary income producer while he went to law school. In 1963 they moved to Appleton, WI where she raised a family. Joan worked for Appleton Public Schools as a substitute teacher and later as an English teacher at Madison Middle School and North High School until retirement. Joan enjoyed travel, hiking and birding. She spent time in Africa, China, Alaska and New Zealand. Her three surviving children are Amy Lynn Tylutki, Medford, OR, Susan Mae Engen, Edina, MN, and Richard Angus McIntyre, Hollywood FL. She had four grandchildren Vivian Mae Engen, Denver, CO, Annie Mae Engen, Colorado Springs, CO, Olivia Mae Tylutki Dallas, TX and Lucas Michael Tylutki, Rochester, NY. She wished to be cremated with her ashes spread on the waters of Biscayne Bay, off Miami, FL by her son, a local boat captain.
