    • Debra Kempen, Appleton, age 57, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Sunday afternoon, September 19, 2010. She was born in Appleton on April 26, 1953, daughter of the late Lester Jansen and Ione Jansen who currently resides in Combined Locks. On June 23, 1975, she married David Kempen at First English Lutheran Church in Appleton. Debra had previously been employed as a graphic designer at Fox Valley Technical College. She was a very talented and artistic woman who enjoyed sewing, knitting, hobbies, and crafts of all kinds. She also spent much time on her gardening and landscape. A day didn't pass when she didn't stretch in the morning and spend time with her dog, Abby.

      Debra is survived by her husband: David Kempen of Appleton; a daughter: Erica (Bryan) Shefchik of Madison and their son Logan; her mother: Ione Jansen of Combined Locks; three brothers and a sister: Tim (Shirley) Jansen of Combined Locks; Susan Jansen of Little Chute; Randy (Sue) Jansen of Seymour; and Rodney (Julie) Jansen. She is also survived by David's brothers and sisters: Germaine Hermans of Kimberly; Vernon (Joan) Kempen of Appleton; Leo (Yvonne) Kempen of Little Chute; Bill (Dorothy) Kempen of Appleton; Floyd (Diane) Kempen of Hollandtown; John (Angie) Kempen of Combined Locks; Raymond (Carla) Kempen of Seymour; Pat (Dan) Buchinger of Kaukauna; and Rick (Pam) Kempen of Kaukauna.

      Debra was preceded in death by her father: Lester Jansen; a brother-in-law: John Hermans; David's parents: Mary and Raymond Kempen; and David's stepfather: Jerome Seaver.

      The funeral liturgy for Debra will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at ST. PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 Wallace Street in Combined Locks with Fr. Jim Lucas officiating. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday morning from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service.
