- John J. Lemmen, 74, Green Bay, passed away Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, at his home after a difficult battle with stomach cancer. John was born Aug. 2, 1934, in De Pere, to the late John and Clara (Streit) Lemmen..
On Feb. 11, 1956, John married the love of his life, Donna M. Tenor at St. Philip Catholic Church in Green Bay. John worked at Pepsi Cola before starting his career on Oct. 27, 1952, at U.S. Paper Mill. John was very proud of his career and loved to work. He retired on Aug. 2, 1996, after 44 years of service. John was a loving, caring, proud and intelligent man who was always there to help a friend or family member in need. There wasn't anything he couldn't fix. He was a father, mentor and coach to many. John had a wonderful sense of humor, a positive attitude and enjoyed life..
John loved to visit with family and friends, share stories and make people laugh. He enjoyed playing checkers with his grandchildren and teaching them to drive and everything they needed to know about their cars. He enjoyed watching the Packers, fishing in Canada, traveling in the motor-home, gardening, snowmobiling, playing cards especially Schafkopf, playing in black-jack and poker tournaments in Las Vegas, Arizona and Green Bay. John also enjoyed bowling. He and Donna were on a league at Red Carpet Lanes for 22 years..
He will always be remembered for his love, and his commitment and dedication to his wife and family..
John will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 52 years, Donna; his daughters and their spouses, Debbie (John) Walsh, Ashwaubenon; Amy (Jeff) Wautier, De Pere; eight grandchildren, Jason (Cindy) Splan, Madison, Wis.; Jay (Nicole) Nuske, Green Bay; Angela Nuske and her fiance, Curt Czerwinski, La Crosse, Wis.; Nathan (Jessie) Lemmen, Ashwaubenon; Mathew Lemmen, Green Bay; Cori (Dan) Christian, Winston Salem, N.C.; Ashley (Kasey) Steinbrinck, Green Bay; Heather Wautier, De Pere; four great-grandchildren, Bryce Splan, Christopher Nuske, Jonathan Nuske, Quinten Lemmen; five sisters and their spouses, Dorothy Albers, Fountain Hills, Ariz.; Clara (Norbert) Petasek, De Pere; Mary (Richard) Russell, Green Bay; Marge (John) Brennen, De Pere; Marge Mommaerts, De Pere; a brother and his wife, Ed (Linda) Lemmen, Florida; and one sister-in-law, Dolores Lemmen, Ashwaubenon. He is further survived by four brothers-in-law and their spouses, James (Mary) Tenor Sr., Ken (Gerri) Tenor, all of Green Bay; David (Donna) Tenor Sr., Dennis (Jane) Tenor, all of Ashwaubenon; three sisters-in-law and their spouses, Karen (Dean) Gigot, Wanda (Len) Coppens, and Bonnie DeBauche and her friend, Bob Jenquin, all of Green Bay; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends..
He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law and-father-in-law, Adeline and Walter Tenor; his daughter, Cindy Nuske; two sons, Wayne Lemmen, Randy Lemmen; two brothers, Albert Lemmen, Peter N. Lemmen; three brother-in-laws, Carl Albers, Jerome Blondheim, John DeBauche; and a sister-in-law, Dolly Tenor..
Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. A Parish Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Friends may also call at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1484 Ninth St., from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Richard Getchel officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, De Pere..
