      Jansen, Alice C.
Alice Jansen, Little Chute, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2008, at St. Paul Villa. She celebrated her 100th birthday on September 16, 2007. She was the daughter of Antone Casey and Mary (Verstegen) Jansen. The granddaughter of Herman Verstegen, one of the founders of the Bank of Little Chute and great-granddaughter of Arnold Verstegen, one of the early settlers of the Village of Little Chute.

In 1924, Alice graduated from the old Little Chute Public High School and went on to a business school in Appleton, taking bookkeeping and shorthand. She worked for a toy company in Appleton and then in the highway department at the Appleton Court House for 40 years. She liked to golf and spend time at her home on Lake Winnebago. She also enjoyed doing needle point and playing bridge, which she did as of May 2006. Alice completed 7,000 volunteer hours at the front desk at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She drove her car to Parkside Nursing Home to visit her sister, taking the back streets until she turned 99. Alice never turned down an invitation, of which she had many, because she was afraid people would stop asking her. Alice was a wonderful person and liked to tell stories about the past. She will be missed by her family and many friends.

Ms. Jansen is survived by her nieces and nephews: Alice (Bob) Weyers, Mary Gloudemans, Dewain (Pat) Locy, Ruth Locy, James (Betty) Locy, Gerald (Mary Ellen) Locy, Thomas (Debra) Locy and Harold Bissing; first cousins: Carl, Don and Ross Verstegen; Jim Verkuilen and Reva Ovens.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Mary (Edward) Mader and Geraldine (Henry) Locy; nieces: Dorothy Bissing and Dolores (Eugene) Driessen; nephews: Donald (Florence) Locy, David Locy, John Locy, Yvonne Locy and Roger Gloudemans.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2008, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church with Rev. David Funk, O.F.M. Cap. officiating. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 9 a.m. Saturday until the time of the mass.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to the staff and friends at Parkside Care Center, Affinity Hospice and St. Paul Villa and Dr. Meyer and his office staff for the great care and time they spent with Alice.
