- W. A. Van Zeeland, Senior Scientist In Virginia, Dies
William A. Van Zeeland, 58, formerly of Combined Locks, died on Wednesday, December 21, in Arlington, Virginia. Mr. Van Zeeland was senior scientist at the System Planning Corp., in Arlington, at the time of his death.
He was born February 25, 1925 in Combined Locks, and was a graduate of St. John High School in Little Chute. Following his graduation from the Milwaukee School of Engineering in 1949, he taught at the school for five years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and later did research work at the University of chicago for five years. He then went to work as a scientist at The Pentagon, where he remained for seven years before he and a group of men founded the System Planning Corp.
Mr. Van Zeeland is survived by two brothers, Alois of Little Chute, and Fred of Milwaukee; seven sisters, Wilma Mitchell of Indianapolis, Indiana, Sister Cecelisa of Chicago, Hildegarde Lamers of Canoga Park, Calif., Julia Gloudemans of Appleton, Donata Wolfgram of Milwaukee, Ann Schneider of Sherwood, and Myra Dercks of Little Chute; his wife, Janice,; one son; four daughters; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a former wife, Viola McMahon; a brother, Robert, and a sister, Emily Berben.
The funeral mass was held Dec. 22 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Arlington. Interment took place in Arlington.
