- Betty Jane Ann Steger, age 87, passed away Monday morning, November 11, 2019 at St Paul Home, due to complications of Parkinsons Disease. Betty Jane was born in Dundas on October 24, 1932, daughter of the late Gordon and Loretta (Rademacher) Nettekoven. She was a graduate of Kaukauna High School in 1952, and married Robert Steger, Sr. on September 25, 1954.
For thirty-five years, Betty Jane worked as an accounting clerk in the Appleton Papers Combined Locks mill and retired in 1995. Many will remember her service as a cheerleading coach. She started at Quinney and St. Als elementary schools, and then coached for twenty-seven years at the Kaukauna High School. Through all those years, she coached for the love of the sport, to be a role model to the girls - she treated each of her athletes like they were her own daughters. At Kaukauna High School, she was also a member and past president of the Alumni Association, the Kaukauna Athletic Hall of Fame, and was a recipient of the Kaukauna Alumni Award. In 2016, she was elected to the Wisconsin Association of Cheer and Pom Coaches Hall of Fame. Betty Jane was also a member of the Kaukauna Elks. She was a diehard fan of the Wisconsin Badgers and Green Bay Packers and attended the Ice Bowl as well as Super Bowl II. Most of all, she loved her family and spending time with her children, grands, and great-grands.
Survivors include three children: Robert (Jane) Steger, Jr. of Kaukauna, Debbie (Lance) Driessen of Stevens Point, and Sara Jane (Kristian) Lee of Madison; her grandchildren: John (Whitnee) Steger, Sam Driessen, Katie (Adam) Jenner, Allison Anna Grode, and Aaron Grode; her great-grandchildren: Jacob Robert Steger, Mackenzie Marie Steger, and Emmit Michael Jenner. She is further survived by two sisters: Joan Blumreich and Nancy (Karl) Frank; a sister-in-law: Darlene Steger; and a special niece and goddaughter, Kara Ferris.
Betty Jane was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob in 2011, his parents Joseph and Anna Steger, two grandsons: Matthew Charles Grode and Mark Robert Grode, a brother-in-law Jack Blumreich, and Bobs siblings: Marion (Stanley) Lambie, Lorraine (Karl) Heilman, Donald (Harriet) Steger, Betty (Arthur) Deeg, Anna May Steger, and Joseph Steger.
The Funeral Liturgy for Betty Jane will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 30, 2019, at St. Katharine Drexel Parish - St. Mary Church, located at 119 W. 7th Street in Kaukauna. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church on Saturday, November 30, from 9:00 AM until the time of the mass at 11:00 AM. Memorial contributions may be directed to Parkinsons Research or the Kaukauna Alumni Association.
The family would like to thank all the caring angels at St. Paul Elder Services, especially the hospice staff. You cared for our mom as though she was your very own, and we will never forget your kindness.
