    • Van Remortel, Frances M.

It is with great sadness that John Rauscher and Patricia Keast, the son and daughter of Fran announce the passing of their mother, Frances Van Remortel on April 5, 2014 at the age of 91. Fran was born Frances Marie Berger on December 24, 1922 in Dazey, North Dakota to George and Marie Berger. She was the sixth of nine children and was one of only two remaining sisters and brothers at the time of her death. At 17, Fran moved to St. Nazianz, Wisconsin, and in 1947 to Manitowoc where she met Art Rauscher who had recently returned from the Pacific after World War II. They were married on October 12, 1949 in Manitowoc. In 1950, Art and Fran moved to Green Bay where she lived for most of her adult life. Fran and Art had two children, Patricia and John. In 1973, Art died of cancer, and in 1980 Fran married George Van Remortel who died in 2000.

Throughout her life, Fran was known for love of family and friends, her chocolate chip and oatmeal cranberry cookies, her volunteer work at St. Mary of the Angels where she was a faithful parishioner for over 30 years, and her love for shopping.

She will be greatly missed by her son, John of Green Bay; and daughter, Patricia of Sacramento, California; her grand stepsons and wives, Darren and Ellen Keast and Matthew and Yulan Keast; and her great grandchildren, Rylan, Ian, Ethan, and Mina, all of San Francisco. She will also be missed by her sister, Pauline DeMars of Minneapolis; her sister-in-law, Ruth Berger of Valley City, North Dakota; and many nieces and nephews, particularly, Jane Hermans of Green Bay, Kathie Handrick of Edgar, Maxine Kay of West Bend; and many friends from St. Mary of the Angels; and Marjerie Badilla of Chicago; and Jean Ferrier of Green Bay.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2014 from 9 to 11 a.m. at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church, 645 S. Irwin Ave. Funeral Mass 11 a.m. Thursday at the Church with Fr. Patrick Gawrylewski, OFM officiating. Proko-Wall is assisting the family. On-line condolences may be sent to the family at www.prokowall.com.

Fran is now at peace with God. May He grant her eternal rest.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of Fran to St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church, 645 S. Irwin Ave., Green Bay, 54301.

The family thanks the staff of Rebekah Haven and Heartland Hospice for their compassionate care and Fran's fellow residents for their support and encouragement.
