Henry De Groot 727 W. Main St. Little Chute
Age 88, died at 2:30 p.m. Sunday after a brief illness. He was born September 15, 1893 in the Town of Vandenbrock. He had been owner and operator of De Groot's Grocery from 1929 to 1959. Mr. De Groot was a charter member of the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post No. 258, the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Little Chute Businessmen's Association. He was a World War I veteran.
Surviovors include two daughters and sons in-law, Margaret and James Rossmeissl, Appleton; Doris and Robert Barron, De Pere; seven sons and daughters in-law, Joe and Shirley, Eureka, Illinois; Florian and Pearl, Little Chute; Roger and Mary, Green Bay; Vincent and Lee Ann, Little Chute; Don and Lori, Little Chute; Gerald and Pauline, Little Chute; Tim and Cherri, Corinth, Mississippi; a sister, Marie [De Groot] Brady, California; 35 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes, January 3, 1982; a daughter, Bernice; five brothers and three sisters.
A concelebrated Mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. John Catholic Church, with Rev. Msgr. James Vanden Hogen, the Rev. John Becker, and Deacon Vincent De Groot officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Verkuilen Funeral Home from 4-9 p.m. Monday, and from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the time of service. There will be an American Legion visitation at 7 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Military rites will be immediately after the mass. A memorial will be established.
