      Age 77, died unexpectedly at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. He was born July 2, 1901 in Kaukauna. Mr. Bast was a cheese maker for a period of 15 years and farmed at his present address for 37 years, during which time he was also Assessor for the Town of Center. Following his retirement from farming in 1968, he was a substitute mail carrier until 1977. Survivors include his wife, Ella Timmers Bast, to whom he had been married since November 19, 1929; two daughters: Mrs. Victor (Janiece) Hein, Route 2, Black Creek; Mrs. Henry (Mary) VanDenBosch, Route 1, Seymour; two sons: LeRoy, Kimberly; John, Route 3, Appleton; 21 grandchildren and two great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Edward Catholic Church, Mackville, with the Rev. Justin N. Werner officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Wichmann Funeral Home from 3 to 0 p.m. Thursday and after 8 a.m. Friday until the cortege leaves for the church. The prayer and scripture service will be at 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
