George A Joosten, 58, 421 7th St. S., died at 2:45 A.M. Sunday at Riverview Manor, where he had been a patient for 10 days. Death followed a lingering illness.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, the Rev. Carl Dockendorff officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park with military rites by the American Legion.
Mr. Joosten was born June 25, 1914 in Rudolph, son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Joosten, and had resided in the area all of his life. He was employed by CW Transport as a truck driver until his retirement in 1966 due to poor health. He was the recipient of the 20-year Safe Driving aware. He married Peggy Hilgers in Rudolph March 16, 1943.
Surviving are his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Larry Frank, Mrs. Gary Giebels and Mrs.Michael Joosten, all of Wisconsin Rapids, and Sally Joosten, at home; a brother, Joseph Joosten, Illinois; a sister, Mrs. Mamie Kempen, Rudolph; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, three sisters and two brothers.
Mr. Joosten served in World War II as a mechanics instructor and attained the rank of sergeant.
Friends may call at Higgins Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Tuesday. A wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
