- Franklin C. Colling, 87, formerly of De Pere, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2013. He was born September 4, 1926 in the Town of Seymour, son of the late Christopher and Cora (Sachs) Colling.
He married Norma Jean Andersen on October 23, 1948, at Hickory Corners Church, Suring, and she preceded him in death on November 21, 1999.
Frank worked for the Marketing Association of America, retiring in 1988. While there he held several different positions, including fieldman, where he traveled to cheese factories to assist as needed. For 15 years prior to his retirement, he was the foreman of the warehouse and cheese store. He and Norma owned Fra-Nor Ceramics. They made and sold ceramics to several green houses and gift shops, and every year produced a special Christmas ornament.
Frank and Norma enjoyed spending time at their cottage at While Lake, outside of Hickory. They loved entertaining friends and family, taking pontoon rides and tending their blueberry bushes and apple trees. They also enjoyed traveling, especially to Las Vegas, Nevada.
Frank was a past member of the De Pere Men's Club, Optimist and Lions. He enjoyed playing sheepshead and cribbage and took pride in being a gardener.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Mike Seeman, Little Chute; one granddaughter, Erin (Zac) Eckberg, Madison and their children, Layla and Eli Eckberg; sister and brother: Mildred Bohm, Seymour, and Nick Colling, De Pere; brother-in-law, Robert Andersen, White Lake; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Norma, Franklin was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers: Esther Price, Leonard Colling, Alice Treptow, Robert Colling, Theresa Sievert, Gertrude Zuleger, and Frances Krueger; and special friend, Lucille Miller.
Family and friends may call at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave., De Pere, on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 from 3:00 p.m. until the hour of funeral service at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be in Hickory Cemetery, Suring. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cotterfuneralhome.com.
The family extends a special thank you to his nieces, nephews, family, and friends; to nurse practioner Katie Hampton of Cardiology Associates, the staff and residents at Meadow Wood Apartments and his special caregivers that became daughters to dad, and to Theda Care Hospice for their wonderful care.
- Frank was born on his parents' farm on Tubbs Road, Town of Seymour. When he was two, the family moved to a farm on Shady Road, Town of Maple Valley, near Isaar. He attended school until 8th grade at the Frank Dorn School, two miles from the farm. The family belonged to Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour.
Norma, the daughter of Roy and Irene Andersen, grew up in DePere. When she was in middle school, the family moved to Hickory, WI, where her father undertook farming. She graduated
from Oconto Falls High School and began working for the
Telephone Company in Green Bay. Frank and Norma met while
roller-skating and married several months later. Frank started working for the Marketing Association of America on May 20th of 1947 and continued there until his retirement in August of 1988. While there he held several different positions, including fieldman, where he traveled to cheese factories to assist as needed. For 15 years prior to his retirement, he was the foreman of the warehouse and cheese store.
Frank and Norma purchased their home in De Pere from Norma's Great Aunt in the mid 1950s. They made many improvements on the property and Frank continues to reside there.
They purchased some property from Norma's parents at While Lake, outside ofHickory, where they built the family cottage. They loved entertaining friends and family, taking pontoon rides and tending their blueberry bushes and apple trees They also enjoyed traveling, especially to Las Vegas, Nevada.
Their daughter, Patti Jo, married Michael James Seeman (B:
11/15/1949) on October 24th1975. Frank and Norma welcomed their only grandchild, Erin Michelle Seeman (B: 03/24/1982) into the family and spent a lot of time watching her grow up in Little Chute. They attended all of her dance recitals, band concerts and
musicals. The fall after Erin was born; Norma took early
retirement from the Telephone Company.
Frank and Norma owned and operated Fra-Nor Ceramics from fall
of 1982 until fall of 1998. They made and sold ceramics to several
green houses and gift shops, including one in Las Vegas. Every
year they produced a special Christmas ornament.
Norma died suddenly on Nov. 21 st, 1999, from a rare type of
bacterial meningitis. She is buried at the Hickory Cemetery in
Hickory WI.
June loth, 2006, Frank will be in attendance at Erin's wedding to
Zachary Eckberg at the Weidner Center in Green Bay.
