    • Phillip Hoffman, well known in the northern part of the county, died at his son's home in the village of Fussville, February 9.

Mr. Hoffman was born on a sailing vessel in mid-ocean, January 14, 1831, while his parents were enroute from Germany to America.

The family settled in Ohio, and when 19 years of age, the boy, Phillip, started west to make his fortune, and took up land in Granville.

He married Mary Ulman in 1853, and five children were born to them, all of whom survive their father.

In 1864 Mr. Hoffman bought the Gilman farm near Menomonee Falls, and in 1885 moved to Fussville.

His wife having died, he married Anna Hacker, who survives him.

Mr. Hoffman was an industrious and successful man, who was highly esteemed.

His surviving children are Servatius, William and Mrs. Elizabeth Stuettgen, of Appleton; Mrs. Charlotte Schneider and Mrs. Rose Wick, of Menomonee Falls. Funeral services were held Monday, conducted by Rev. Nicholas Schaff.
