    • Gloria W. Thurner, of Bark River, MI, enjoyed 91 years of love and life. She passed on April 19, her daughter Gay at her side, in Hospice at U.P. Health in Marquette, MI.

She was born on Jan. 12, 1924, in Oconto, WI, a daughter of Matthew and Alvina (Boehler) Hoffman. On October 7, 1950, she married George W. Thurner in Appleton, WI. He preceded her in death on July 30, 2002.

She was raised in Menominee, MI, moving to Sturgeon Bay, WI at 16. She received her R.N. degree from Cook County, IL in 1945. In addition to raising three children, Gloria worked in the Maternity Ward at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Dr. Krueger's Private Practice, the VNA, and as an industrial nurse for Appleton Wire Works.

She enjoyed years of square dancing, round dancing and golf. She was an accomplished painter, creating many oil canvases for her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She also loved to crochet.

She and her husband retired in 1983, selling their home and re-beginning life in a Silverside Greyhound that George had converted. They enjoyed the winter months traveling the southern states and eventually settled as "snowbirds" in Weslaco, TX. The summer months found them migrating back to Wisconsin to spend time with their family.

In 1999, with her husband George in the early stages of Parkinson's, they moved to Antigo, WI, to live with her daughter Gay, and Keith. They enjoyed an apartment addition, with Gloria sharing cooking duties, (take-out orders). After George's passing, Gloria became very active in the Meals-on-Wheels program, the Langlade Hospital Auxiliary, the Hospital Blood Bank and the Tuesday Painting Circle at the Public Library. She was a member of St. Mary and Hyacinth Church.

With her daughter Gay and Keith retiring at the end of 2013, she moved with them to the great U.P. She enjoyed the multiple day trips, as well as the ever changing lake views from her bedroom windows.

She is survived by two daughters, Gay (Keith) Fraundorf of Bark River, MI; Gwen Haese of Mishicot, WI;, and one son, Greg (Mary) Thurner of Florissant, CO; six grandchildren, Alex (Angie) Fraundorf of Appleton, WI; Luke Fraundorf (Rachel Burke) of Rice Lake, WI; Bria (Zach) Jansen of St. Paul, MN; Ashley Haese of Boston, MA; Kaitlyn Haese (Ben Paynter) of Portland, OR; and Michael Haese of Virginia. She was blessed to enjoy her three great-grandsons, Daniel Fraundorf of Appleton; Evan and Noah Jansen of St. Paul. Also surviving is a favorite nephew, Kent (Joyce) Dzurick; and dear friends, MaryAnn Zemke and Arlene Bubon.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Clarice, brother-in-law, Stanley Dzurick, a son-in-law, Richard Haese; and George's 14 siblings and their spouses.

Visitation and Funeral Services will be at St. Mary & Hyacinth Catholic Church, Antigo, WI. on Thursday, April 30. Visitation from 10 a.m. until Services begin at 11 a.m.
