Balgie, Paul J. "Jay" Appleton Formerly of Little Chute, age 87, died Thursday, July 17, 2003 at Colony Oaks Care Center, Appleton. He was born June 5, 1916 in Kaukauna, son of Frank and Louise (Reinhart) Balgie. Paul married Rhea Hammen May 6, 1947 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute. She preceded him in death September 10, 1969. Mr. Balgie was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church. He was also a member of Jacob Coppus American Legion Post #258, Little Chute and the Quarter Century Club of Thilmany Paper Mill. Mr. Balgie was a World War II veteran having served with the U. S. Army as a sergeant in the military police and attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison majoring in liberal arts. Paul is survived by his wife, Marie; four children: Barbara (Van) Howerton, Little Chute; Carl (Nancy) Balgie, Kimberly; Jim (Denise) Balgie, Little Chute; Mary (Mike) Franik, Kaukauna; seven grandchildren: Curt (Laurie), Mike (Christie), Rob, Matt, Chris and Sarah, Troy and Ben (Tanya); three great-grandchildren: Alex, Hunter and Adrionna; seven stepchildren, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Beatrice (Al) Kittell and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill (Ann) Hammen.
