    • Medford Star News, Thurs. May 5, 1949, p. 3, c. 1, photo. John Kraemer, 88, Early Medford Settler, Buried Here Monday. Funeral services were held Monday morning at 9 a.m. at the Holy Rosary Catholic church in Medford for John Kramer, 88, early Medford settler who died early Friday morning at the Medford hospital. He had been a patient there since Easter Sunday, when he suffered a slight stroke. The Rev. Gregory Reuter officiated at the services, and interment was made in the Evergreen cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Art Gelhaus, Chas. Rief jr., John Ziehlke, Ken Bulin, John Huther and Nick Paustenbach. Mr. Kramer was born at Calvary, Wis., on Nov. 29, 1860. He attended school there and at the age of 18 he came to Taylor county, settling on an 80 acre tract of land east of the fairgrounds. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Gilles at Calvary on May 7, 1885. In 1914 they moved to their present home on highway 64, opposite the fairgrounds. He was active in town and county government for many years, serving at various times as clerk of the joint school district of Medford and Browning, as county clerk, register of deeds, and town clerk. He was one of the organizers of the Goodrich Telephone company, served as president of the Little Black Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Company for 45 years. He was a charter member of the Eagles, a member of the Pestalotzi and the Catholic Family Protective Associations. Surviving are his widow; three sons, Anton and John, Watertown, and Joseph Marshfield; one daughter, Anna (Mrs. Chas. Trepanier), Minneapolis; 17 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. A daughter Josephine died in October 1947.
