    • Hurst, LilaLee Hurst (nee Boettcher), Lila Lee Hurst, age 83, of Kaukauna passed away surrounded by her children, Tuesday morning, August 6, 2013. Lila entered this world on May 12, 1930 to the delight of her parents Roy and Theresa Boettcher of Antigo.Along with her three sisters Norma Jean, Beverly, and Carol, Lila did "the chores" at her parent's dairy farm as soon as she was able to walk. "Iya" as she was affectionately called by her mother developed a strong work ethic during her youth that stayed with her for a lifetime.Lila, along with her sister Beverly, formed a singing duo, The Ravenettes, with the Lawrence Duchow Orchestra. Their duets could be heard on the local radio station in Antigo. After graduating from Antigo High School in 1948, Lila journeyed to the Fox Valley in search of employment because baling hay for the next 50 years did not appeal to her.Shortly after her arrival in the Fox Valley, Lila met and married Richard Hurst of Kaukauna. Although they later divorced, she moved forward and continued to raise her six children in the friendly confines of Beaulieu Hill. Until July 2012, when she was no longer able to remain in her home, Lila maintained and lived in her home on "The Hill" giving her Beaulieu Hill Bandits a place they could call home and stay together. For this, her children will be forever grateful.Employed as a beautician, food preparer, cook, bartender (where she received her "pour man's" PhD) and finally as an assembler for Miller Electric, Lila worked very hard to support her family as a single parent. Her children were not the only persons to benefit from her strong work ethic. Her commitment to assist others was evident in her volunteer work. She organized and hosted a Christmas dinner with her friend Marlene "Foxy" Holschuh. Meals on Wheels and the Holy Spirit School art classrooms also benefited from Gramma Lila's helping hand.Working multiple jobs to support her family afforded Lila little time to catch her breath and smell the roses in her early years. She did make a point to reserve time to shoot pool and darts until she was 81 years young. She took great pride in the trophy she received in 2005 for sinking the 8-ball on the break. Lila's commitment extended to her grandchildren with whom she was finally able to smell the roses. Each grandchild was special; she often attended their special days and events throughout the years.A lover of nature and animals alike, Lila enjoyed walking with her family and pets, but not necessarily in that order. Hunter, Coal, Maggie and Wilma were four dogs that benefited from Lila's kindness. In addition to her canine friends, Lila is survived by her children: daughter Vicki (Mark) Ott and her grandchildren Jason (Kim) Ott, Mandy (Mike) Wick, and Molly Ott; daughter Sandy (Jeff) Stumpf and her grandchildren Heath (Jill) Stumpf and Andrea (Reynaldo) Guerrero; son Daniel (Karen) Hurst and her grandchildren Rory (Kate) Hurst, Matthew (Mandi) Hurst, Abby (Nickolas) Davis, Hannah (Daniel) Knudsen, and Jordan (special friend Lynlea) Hurst; daughter Cathy (Glen) Hennes and her grandchildren Leah (Kevin) Micke, Theresa Jansen, Sam (Christine) Kilgas, and Charlie Kilgas; son Mike Hurst and son Pat (Lisa) Hurst and her grandchildren Alex and Emma; her sister Carol (Jerry) Seis. Her family tree also blossoms with 23 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way. Lila is also survived by a close friend and traveling partner, Karen Cartwright. The 1992 Kaukauna mayoral candidate, who garnered a whopping 146 votes, was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Norma Jean and Beverly, and brother-in-law, Norman Helgeson. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staffs of Appleton Health Care Center, Matthew's of Appleton, and Westhaven of Brillion.Funeral services for Lila will be at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 9, 2013 at Bethany Lutheran Church, 124 W. 10th Street, Kaukauna with Rev. Levi Willms officiating. Friends may call on Friday at church from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
