- JOSEPH SCHWARTZ (d. 1947) Joseph P. Schwartz Sr., 75, pioneer Meeme tavenkeeper, and lifelong resident of the town, died this morning at St. Nicholas hospital, Sheboygan, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a. m. Thursday at the Schwartz home and at 9 oclock at St. Fidelis Catholic church, Spring Valley, the Rev. Robert Klein officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Schwartz was born in Meeme in 1872 and attended the parochial school. He learned the carpenter trade, which he followed in connection with the tavern business in Meeme. In 1907 he married Minnie Wasmer. He served 19 years as a town supervisor and was a member of St. Fidelis congregation and the Holy Name society. Survivors are his wife; four sons, Gilbert, Matthew, and Bert of Meeme, Joseph Jr., of this city; six daughters, Mrs. Bert Renzelman of Milwaukee, Mrs. Ray Albrecht, Valerie, Katherine and Betty all of Meeme, Mrs. Albert Bogenschuetz of Erdman; sister, Mrs. Anna Wesling of Plymouth; and 15 grandchildren; a son preceded Mr. Schwartz in death. The body will be moved to the home Tuesday afternoon from the Nennig funeral home, St. Wendel. The rosary will be recited by the Holy Name society at 8 p. m. Tuesday.
