- Wausau Daily Herald, Tues. Feb. 7, 1978, p. 6, c. 3. John A. Dobberstein, 87, 713 S. Sixth Ave., Wausau, died at 4 p.m. Monday at a Wausau hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wausau. The Rev. Kenneth Melby will officiate and burial will be in Restlawn Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Thursday at the Helke East Chapel, Wausau, and after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Mr. Dobberstein was born Dec. 17, 1890, in Chicago, Ill., son of Mr. and Mrs. John Dobberstein. He married Adelia Voigt in the town of Hamburg on Sept. 30, 1915. She died on Mar. 3, 1958. On Oct. 4, 1966, in Wausau, he married Josephine Metz, who survives. He was a retired employee of Silcrest (now Crestline). Survivors besides his wife include two daughters, Mrs. Vernette Pijan, 508 Humbloldt Ave., and Mrs. Mildred Pittsley, 409 N. First Ave., both of Wausau; a stepson James Metz, Lakewood, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Anna Paul, 602 S. Second Ave., Wausau; 10 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
