- Eugene C. "Gene" Hansen, 57, of Little Chute, formerly of New Lisbon, died unexpectedly Thursday, March 30, 2006. He was born Feb. 10, 1949, to Clarence and Florence (Shell) Hansen.
He graduated from New Lisbon High School in 1967. He married Karen Southworth on April 22, 1972, at the New Lisbon Methodist Church. Following graduation from high school, Gene served as an Aviation Electricians Mate/Air Crewman in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He continued his service in the Wisconsin National Guard as an Electronic Equipment Repair Specialist 5 until 1976. He was a member of the New Lisbon American Legion Post 110. Following his years in the active duty, Gene attended Western Wisconsin Technical College in LaCrosse. There, he earned an Associate Degree of Applied Science in Biomedical Electronics. Gene went on to earn his certification as a Registered Communications Distribution Designer. He was the past president and member of the Biomedical Associations of Wisconsin, Eastern Wisconsin Biomedical Association and Wisconsin Health Care Telecommunications Association. Gene was also a member of the Building Industry Consulting Service International, Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation, Northeastern Wisconsin Telecommunication Association, Association for the Society of Hospital Engineers and Wisconsin Healthcare Safety Association. He was employed with Romes Design, Inc. of Green Bay.
Gene is survived by his wife, Karen of Little Chute; daughter, Michelle (Rob) Gloudemans of Little Chute; grandchildren, Alexis, Blake and Wyatt Gloudemans, brothers, Leon (Janeen), Milford (Jeanne), and Ronald (Darlene) Hansen; sisters, Arliss Davis, Arlene Day and Joyce (Lyndy) Hanson; father-in-law, Harold (Doris) Southworth; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna Hansen, Kenneth (La Vone), Harley "Tuffy" (Sandi) and Larry "Squeak" Southworth. Gene is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Clarence and Florence Hansen, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lester Hansen; and brothers-in-law, Robert Maass and Robert Day.
A funeral was held at 6 p.m. Monday, April 3, 2006, at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Appleton. The Reverend Mark Geisthardt officiated. Military rites were performed by the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258 of Little Chute, immediately after the funeral. Committal was at St. John Cemetery, Little Chute. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established. O'Connell Funeral Services, Little Chute helped the family with arrangements.
