- Lawrence "Larry" Krumpos, 82, of De Pere, died Thursday afternoon, June 6, 2013 at home. The son of Lawrence and Mathilda (Schneider) Krumpos was born June 14, 1930 in Green Bay. Larry served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1948 to 1952. He married Shirley Baeten at St. Boniface Catholic Church in De Pere on August 9, 1952.
Larry worked for and later owned and operated Larry's De Pere Ambulance Service. In addition, he worked at James River Corporation for forty-two years, retiring in 1994. He spent 37 years coaching baseball and football in De Pere. Larry was instrumental in starting Kelly Danen Park in De Pere.
Larry was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, gentle and caring man known for his kindness and ability to make others laugh with his humorous jokes and comments. He had a heart of gold and often was the first to volunteer to help out with any project. Whether it was moving one of his children into a new home, building a deck, remodeling a room, landscaping a yard, making repairs, or dog sitting, you could always count on Larry to lend a helping hand and get the job done. Larry spent several years helping out at St Boniface Parish and Our Lady Of Lourdes and enjoyed spending time with the clergy, sisters, and friends from the community. He loved to be busy but he also looked forward to taking a break and having breakfast out with his sisters, Mae and Rose.
Larry loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, tinkering in his garage and tending to his garden and flowers. He loved feeding the birds and enjoyed waking up each morning to a hot cup of tea and a good bowl of oatmeal as he and Shirley watched the birds and squirrels from their kitchen window.
In is retirement years you would often find Larry at the Gym or softball/baseball diamond sitting proudly cheering for his grandchildren. We will miss his cheers, his bright smile, his laughter and his calming reassurance. Heaven will surely enjoy him, but he will be sadly missed by all who knew him here.
