    • De Pere - Jean F. (Aerts) McVey, 86, De Pere, died peacefully surrounded by her family on February 1, 2019. She was born April 2, 1932 to Fred and Frances (Verheyen) Aerts in the Town of Lawrence. She was united in marriage on June 14, 1952 to Bernard E. McVey. Jean started her life with Bernard in Greenleaf but moved to Michigan Street in De Pere just before the birth of their third child and remained there for more than sixty years.

Mom was a maker of so many things … crocheted blankets, school clothes, wedding dresses and bridesmaid gowns, raspberry and strawberry jams, cinnamon rolls and donuts, carrots and coffee for funeral dinners at St. Francis, and, of course, thousands and thousands of those awesome chocolate chip cookies. She had a green thumb, growing vegetables with Dad in the garden on County X and, in her backyard, growing lilacs, hostas, clematis, and especially her roses that filled the house through summer and fall. And Mom really knew how to make Christmas special for all of us with family traditions and a tree in almost every room. Her favorite tree held ornaments engraved with the names of each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mom enjoyed a good card game, cheering for her children and grandchildren at their sporting events and performances, and Packer and Badger football. Together Mom and Dad showed us the value of family, hard work, and caring about others, more than earning the rest they now share with their son Jeff.

Survivors include her children, Barb (Jim) Brooks, Joe (Sue), Jerome (Korry), Bonnie (Dave), John, Beth (Gary) Bronstein, Brenda (Paul); grandchildren: Amanda, Sara, Karla, Katie, Kerry, Adam, Chad, Ben, Kelsey, Courtney, Ian, Maggie, Taylor, Jared and Travis; great-grandchildren: Ethan, Brenna, Collin, Bryce, Mica, Jace, Ahna,,and Lyla. Jean is further survived by her sisters, Marge Buresh, Rosemary McVey, Geri (Pete) VandenBogart, Pat (John) Geurts; and brother-in-law, Red Beyer, and many nieces and nephews.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard, her son Jeff, her parents, her daughter-in-law Mary; her sisters Ceil Cornelissen, Loretta (Ray) Thyssen, Dorothy (Donald) Matzke, Betty Mae Jones, Janice Beyer, Alice Vande Hei; her brother, Bill (Bernice) Aerts; her in-laws, Joe Buresh, Don McVey, and Bob (Vi) McVey.

Family and friends may call at St. Francis Xavier Church, 220 S. Michigan St., De Pere, beginning at 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on February 5, 2019. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Father Richard Getchel officiating. Burial will take place at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Cotter Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family.

Jean's family extends a special thank you to all at Rennes who have helped take care of Mom during these last two years. Your gentle hands, kind words, and attention to Mom have been greatly appreciated. We also greatly appreciate the concern, respect, and friendship given to Mom and us by Mike and all at Cotter Funeral Home.
