- Gerald P. Nackers, Freedom, age 91, died Sunday January 6, 2012 (errror in date, published 1/7/13). He was born in Kaukauna on April 23, 1921 to the late Henry and Petronella (Liebergen) Nackers. Gerald married Mary A. Lamers on May 24, 1945 at St. Paul Parish in Wrightstown. Gerald farmed for 24 years in Freedom. He then worked as a home and barn builder, even building his own home. Gerald was a member of St. Nicholas Parish, where he also held maintenance duties. He enjoyed wood working and cabinet making. Gerald liked to golf, bowl and square dance. He also enjoyed yard work and feeding his birds. Gerald's greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary; children: Wayne (Jean), Appleton; Tom, Milwaukee; Diane (Tom) Busse, Madison; Darlene (Jeff) Hendricks, Little Chute; Bill (Donna), Atlanta, GA; Sue (Dave) Vatland, Appleton; and Bud (Lila), Combined Locks; grandchildren: Jill (Joel) Hinkens, Jodi (Jeremy) Olmsted, Michael (Yvette) Nackers; Adam (Kristin) and Derek Nackers; Jackie (Brian) Garcia and Damon (Amy) Busse; Traci (Glenn) Hipwell, Travis (Ashley) and Kelly Hendricks, Kerri (Troy) Kilgas; Jason (Josie), Kimberly (Ben) Walter and Danny Nackers; Beth (Jeremy) Nettekoven, Katie (David) Lardinois and Cody Vatland; Jami (fiance Ben Burroughs) and Dylan Nackers; 17 great grandchildren; siblings: Marie Nackers, Rose (Vincent) Schmidt, Leo (Alice) Nackers and Margaret (Clyde) Romenesko; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Bernard Tennessen, Loretta Nackers, Helen, Gene, Helen and Marcel (Marilyn) Lamers, Rose (Francis) Schmidt, Fran (Bob) Haen and Emily (Gordon) Vander Wyst. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law: Kathy Nackers; siblings: Eunice Tennessen, Russell (Evelyn) and Victor Nackers; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Gordon (Mary), Lyle (Ellen), Delia and Paul Lamers, Ruby (Bob) Turriff and Jane (Ves) Vosters.
Visitation will be held Thursday January 10, 2013 at ST. NICHOLAS PARISH (W2037 County Road S Freedom) beginning at 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass at 12:00 Noon. The Rev. Daniel Felton will officiate.
