- Francis John M. Bernardy, 87, of Marinette passed away on Friday, November 7, 2014, at the Luther Home. He was born on May 21, 1927, to the late Albert and Julia (ONeill) Bernardy in Marinette.
He served his country in the Marine Corps from 1945-46 during WWII and also from 1950-53 during the Korean War. On February 11, 1956, John married the love of his life Dawn Dolly Kassha at St. Josephs Church in Walsh; she preceded him in death in December 8, 2003. He was employed at Scott Paper Company for over thirty years and retired in 1989. John was an avid sports fan and loved following the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers. He had many wonderful years enjoying his favorite pastimes, hunting, bowling, golfing and going camping with his many friends. He was a member of Holy Family Parish.
John is survived by a son, John (Donna) Bernardy of Temecula, Calif.; two daughters: Cheryl Bernardy of Detroit, Mich. and Michelle (John) OHora of Tucker, Ga.; a sister, Betty Edlebeck; and three grandchildren: Jamie, Jacob and Joseph of Temecula, Calif. He is further survived by special friend and caregiver, Rosie Carviou. In addition to his parents and wife, Dolly, he was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Friends may call at the Thielen Funeral Home on Tuesday November 11, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Parish-Our Lady of Lourdes Church Taylor St. with the Reverend Celestine Byekwaso officiating.
Burial will be in St. Josephs Cemetery-Walsh.
In lieu of flowers donations to the American Heart Association would be appreciated.
