- Irene Bernardy Dal Santo, 96, of Florence passed away Saturday, March 17 at Maryhill Manor, Niagara.
Born April 2, 1915 in Marinette, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Julia (ONeil) Bernardy. She married Nick Dal Santo, jr., on June 2, 1938 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Walsh and he preceded her in death on April 6, 2003.
In January of 1940 they moved to Florence, where she worked at Kennedys Restaurant, Rabs Grocery Store and Bob Landry at the Red Owl, then for many years at the Florence Villa Nursing Home. An active member of St. Mary Catholic Church, she served on St. Marys Altar Society. She enjoyed Bingo, playing cards, spending time with family and friends and was able to attend 25 Dal Santo family reunions.
She is survived by a son, Michael (Dolores) Dal Santo of Florence; two daughters, Sue Newingham of Aurora and Lisa (David) Gribble of Commonwealth; two brothers, Fr. Patrick Bernardy of Niagara and Francis Johnny Bernardy of Marinette; two sisters, Joyce Mescha of Louisville, Kent. and Betty Ann Edlebeck of Wausaukee; eight grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Dennis Newingham; special friend, Donna Aberly and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and her husband, Nick, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Dal Santo; a grandson, David Dal Santo; three brothers, Albert, Harold and Raymond Bernardy and a sister, Patricia Elmer.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 22 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Florence. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Raymond Valerio officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Commonwealth. Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home, Florence is serving the family.
