- Helen M. (Kopecky) Pichotta
Helen Mary (Kopecky) Pichotta died Wednesday, September 6, 2000 at the Nu-Roc Nursing Home in Blackwell, WI. She was born May 11, 1914 on the Kopecky family homestead, 3 miles
outside of Wabeno on the day the barn was being raised. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Helen (Klinka) Kopecky and was a life long resident of Wabeno.
Helen graduated from Wabeno High School in 1932 and was a graduate of a 1 year rural teacher training at the then Stevens Point Normal in Stevens Point, WI. She taught school for
several years at the one room Otter Lake School on County C, outside of Wabeno.
She married Harold Arthur Pichotta on June 19, 1937 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church. They lived almost all of their married life at their home on Forest Avenue in Wabeno.
Besides raising her children, she catered weddings and cooked for the Wabeno Lions Club for 30 years, ending on November 9, 1987. Her excellent cooking ability was well known in the
area. She loved going to the family swimming beach at Trump Lake. For several years she ran the school summer recreation program which involved taking school kids to Trump and Boot
Lakes. Helen always had a garden with a large section of sweet corn and gladiolas, which adorned the dining room table. Helen said one of her favorite jobs was planting trees for the U.S.
Forest Service, which she did for 15 years. She hand planted 1,000 to 1,500 pine trees a day, and said it was one of the most enjoyable times she ever had. The tree planting time also
allowed her to scout out locations for picking blackberries in the fall.
Helen was a charter member of the Wabeno Rescue Squad, which she served for 21 years. She was a member of St. Ambrose Christian Mothers.
She is survived by three sons, Peter (Joan Hennessey) of Snellville, Georgia; Philip (Mary Beth Hauber) of Waukegan, Illinois; Joseph (Margo Vajen) of Inverness, Illinois; a
daughter-in-law Marilyn (Lorenz) Rocole of Wabeno; 1 sister, Alice (James) Harrison, Wabeno; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1997; a son, David; four brothers, Frank, Robert, Harvey, and Frank, Jr. and a sister, Lillian Clark.
